Proclamation: Atoll K book update!

Official word from Norbert Aping, author of “Laurel & Hardy’s Final Film: A Study of the Chaotic Making and Marketing of Atoll K’ is that the English edition of his comprehensive look at the production of Stan and Babe’s cinematic swangsong will be finally released at the end of June. The printer’s proofs are now being proofread, and the final product looks wonderful. The original German version of this book has been available for some months now.

Sacrilegious

As if the countless subpar-quality bootlegs of films as The Flying Deuces and UtopiaK aren’t enough, I just spotted a cheap release (probably on DVD-R) of Be Big! in 16:9, this means: widescreen.

Those not interested, do not answer.

For those who want to see it, click here)

Needless to say this awful product is not recommended. The boys deserve better. Much better.

Aping in English

Norbert Aping’s exhhaustive study of the production and distribution history of Atoll K is available in German only untill now. But here’s good news: the English translation will be published this spring or summer by McFarland, the famous American publisher of reference and scholarly books.

Title and subtile:  ‘The Final Film of Laurel and Hardy.  A Study of the Chaotic Making and Marketing of Atoll K’. Foreword by Glenn Mitchell.
You may want to preorder here.

The nucleus of this book was published in Blotto on paper before the mag folded because not enough people wanted to read it. Boy, are we proud!
