Fire hits Dutch L&H Restaurant

Ron and Gerda’s Laurel and Hardy Café/Restaurant in Zandvoort—a seaside resort near Amsterdam—was severely damaged by an electric fire last Wednesday. Half of the restaurant was burned out and the other half is covered by a black layer of soot. Ron’s collection of L&H memorabila that decorated the walls is almost certainly completely lost. Everything that remained in the ruins has been removed by a company that speciaizes in fire wreckage.

It may take many months (maybe 4 to 6) before “Laurel & Hardy” will be open for Big Business again.

Ron and Gerda organized a ‘burn out after party’ for friends on the terrace of the restaurant today. Bars and restaurants in that same busy street offered help by making beer and drinks available.

The restaurant is wiedely known for its jolly atmosphere in the world of Laurel and Hardy fans. Ron and Gerda’s hospitality was boundless and the food and drinks were excellent Many Sons in Holland, but also in the UK and USA, have offered items from their collections to make ‘Laurel & Hardy’ in Zandvoort an enjoyable and unique place again!
The Dutch Sons had plans for a Christmas party at Ron’s place… Will we have to call it off?

I never manged to make the English comments page work. If you want to comment, please go to the Dutch version by pressing the small Dutch flag on the left and use ‘Reacties’ in the bottom line of the corrersponding item (’Brand (vervolg)) as a link. Temporarily there’s no need to register, but I will moderate the comments so it may take a few hours before they appear on the site…
