]]> 2010-02-22T05:20:00+01:00 Southend eert de Jongens http://www.blotto.nl/index.php/weblog1/southend_eert_de_jongens/ Het Palace Hotel in de Engelse badplaats Southend-on-Sea, waar Laurel en Hardy in 1952 een week logeerden, is gerestaureerd. Op 1 maart gaat het hotel in volle glorie weer open. Twee vergaderzalen die samengevoegd kunnen worden, zijn vernoemd naar Laurel en naar Hardy. Er is bovendien een herinneringsschild aangebracht van de Comic Heritage stichting.  Dit blauwe schild was in 2002 op de pier van Southend onthuld door de acteur John Mills tijdens een Conventie van de Sons of the Desert. Van deze tijdelijke verblijfplaats is de plaquette nu verhuisd naar het Palace Hotel.  De vergaderzalen zien uit op de pier van Southend, die bekend staat als de langste ter wereld. Het werd uit een nalatenschap aangekocht door de acteur/producent Tyler St. Mark die beloofde dat het filmple wereldwijd beschikbaar zou komen voor de fans van Laurel & Hardy, en wel op 16 juni 2010, Stans geboortedag. Tyler St. Mark verklaarde eerder: “Stan Laurel performs a special gesture at the end of the film clip which was clearly intended for his millions of fans worldwide and so we will help him deliver his message 46 years later – on the 120th anniversary of his birthday.”

Laurel & Hard spreken zelf Duits op hun manier, evenals de bijrolspelers die in enkele gevallen vervangen zijn door Duits-sprekende acteurs. Deze versie van The Laurel-Hardy Murder Case is verlengd met stukken uit Berth Marks. Overigens is deze film bij de Nederlandse premiere in de jaren 30 ook in deze vorm vertoond, geadverteerd als ‘Nachtmerries’ met ‘100% Duitschen dialoog’!
